Polycarbonates (PC) is a group of thermoplastic polymers containing carbonate groups in chemical structures. A balance of useful features, including temperature resistance, impact resistance and optical properties, position polycarbonate between Meta Plastics and engineering plastics.
Production
The main polycarbonate material is produced by the reaction of biphenyl A (BPA) and phosgene COCl2.
Applications
Polycarbonate is mainly used for electronic applications that utilize collective safety features. The second largest consumer of polycarbonate is the construction industry, e.g. Dome lights, flat or curved windows and sound walls. Other applications of polycarbonate, compact discs, DVDs and Blu-ray discs are produced, various products are durable, lightweight luggage includes MP3/digital music player cases, ocarinas, computer bags, toys and so on.
